Frequently Asked Questions
What are your admission procedures?
To enroll your child, please complete our online registration form. When a space for your child is confirmed, we will need to collect the following additional items: medical form, copy of birth certificate, registration fee, and handbook signature page. Huguenot United Methodist Preschool does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, gender, disability, veteran status or age in the administration of any of its educational programs, admissions policies, scholarship programs, and other school-adminstered programs or in employment.
What are your hours?
Normal school hours are 9:30 - 12:30. The doors open at 9:20 for all children. We offer extended care before school (8-9:30) and after school (12:30-5:30).
What should I do if my child is sick?
Please send us a message via our communication app anytime your child will be absent. If your child misses school for illness, he/she should not return to school until he/she has been fever-free without medication for 24 hours. Similarly, if a child has had diarrhea and/or vomiting, he/she must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please let the school know if your child is diagnosed with a specific contagious illness. If you are unsure about sending your child to school, keep him/her home. If a child becomes ill during school hours, they are taken to the director's office to rest, away from the other children, until a parent or authorized adult can pick them up. The staff will call the parent first, using home, cell, and work phones, and we will leave messages each place if a parent doesn't answer. If we are unable to contact a parent, we will then call the emergency contact people listed on your child's registration form until the list is exhausted or we contact someone to pick your child up.
Do you allow family members (other than parents) to pick up my child?
Parents may designate whom they authorize to pick up their child by completing the profile section in the childcare app. We will request to see photo identification of any unfamiliar person who attempts to pick up your child and cross-check their name against the authorized names in the app profile.
Are you a nut free school?
Huguenot United Methodist Preschool is NOT a nut-free school. However, we are committed to working with students with multiple food allergies and sensitivities and will designate nut-free classrooms as needed. Please talk with the director if you have specific questions.
How should I dress my child for school?
Please dress your child in simple, comfortable play clothes. Please label all jackets, sweaters, gloves, etc. For their safety, we ask that your child wear only sneakers or shoes with sneaker soles. To encourage independence, dress your child in clothes they can manage by themselves when toileting. No belts or complicated fasteners please.
What type of snacks should we pack?
Students should bring a healthy (cheese, fruit, vegetables, crackers) snack that is easy for them to feed themselves. Snack should include at least 2 items from different food categories (e.g. yogurt and fruit, cheese and crackers, etc.). Send a small bottle or sippy cup filled with water each day. We will refill with water as needed throughout the day. Click here for more information regarding healthy snacks. You may also visit the USDA website for further guidelines.
What is your school closure policy for inclement weather?
Inclement weather or other emergency circumstances may make it necessary to close school. We typically follow the same emergency closing schedule as Chesterfield County. However, if Chesterfield County schools have delayed openings, we will make a decision on a case-by-case basis about whether to or what time to open. During unusual weather conditions, please make a decision about your child's attendance for the day based on personal safety. We will notify parents through email, text, Facebook, the school communication app and the outgoing school voice mail of any schedule changes.
What ways are there to support Huguenot United Methodist Preschool?
The school holds various fundraisers throughout the school year. Information about these fundraisers will be sent home in your child's folder. We encourage you to invite family and friends to participate as well. On an ongoing basis, we participate in the Kroger rewards program and our account number is 83446. The school receives a percentage of your purchases when you register your Kroger card with our account. Please contact the director for more information.
